What is the Difference Between
An Outpatient Program &
An Intensive Outpatient Program?

An outpatient program is a substance abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, or mental health recovery program that allows patients to attend activities, group therapy, and other treatment options while balancing the demands of work, school, or family life. Designed around working professionals, outpatient programs offer high treatment success rates with minimal disruption to daily life.

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) offer an alternative to inpatient programs for patients who need more support without putting their lives on hold. Our IOP options are designed to provide the highest level of outpatient care without restricting patients to a facility or limiting daily activities.

Each program offers multiple therapeutic modalities and treatment options designed by a case worker and care team for gender-focused, individualized attention. From individual therapy to group therapy to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, our modalities are centered around what’s best for the patient to address drug and alcohol addiction.

What the Intensive Outpatient Program
Looks Like at Psyclarity

Holistic and individualized care is the key to long-term healing and recovery. Each patient has a dedicated case worker to design a treatment program with the patient’s specific needs, coping skills, and recovery process in mind.

All modalities at Psyclarity are evidence-based and on the leading edge of the field, all supplemented by alternative therapies and healthy hobbies like outdoor activities, time in nature, and physical fitness. Experiential Therapy, Group Therapy, Family Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) are just a few of the therapies designed to reinforce healing and promote personal transformation.

Ranging from eight to 12 weeks, each patient has an opportunity to work through the treatment plan with an empathetic and judgment-free clinical care team. IOP often includes individual counseling sessions and group sessions to connect with other men and develop healthy hobbies. Treatments may consist of three to five hours each day.

With intensive therapy and structure, patients who suffer from drug or alcohol addiction or mental health concerns can address their mental, emotional, and physical needs to reach the state of health and wellbeing they desire.

After IOP is complete, patients receive a comprehensive aftercare plan with strategies for long-lasting health and sobriety. Each aftercare plan is tailored to the patient’s individual concerns, support system, and goals.

Outpatient and IOP Addiction Treatment: Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions about IOP and outpatient programs? Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions.

Does Health Insurance Cover Outpatient Treatment?

Most health insurance plans cover admission into a detox center or rehab facility. Our admissions specialist will help you determine your eligibility with your insurance provider.

Is It Necessary to Attend Inpatient Treatment Before Outpatient Treatment?

Everyone’s recovery journey is unique, and they’re rarely linear. Some people can begin with outpatient treatment, while others may need inpatient treatment programs before stepping down into outpatient care. During admissions, your care team will develop an individualized treatment plan with an expected transition between levels of care.

How Will I Manage My Job and Family While in Treatment?

One of the benefits of outpatient and IOP treatments is that you can be fully committed to your responsibilities during the day, then return home in the evenings to tend your family or work obligations. Most people continue to attend school, work, or care for family while undergoing substance abuse treatment.

What If I Relapse?

If you’re concerned about relapsing or you begin using addictive substances again, it’s important that you speak with your care team as soon as possible. Relapse isn’t failure, but it’s crucial that you take steps to enter into treatment and stay on track. Your care team will help you determine the best plan of action.

What Happens After Outpatient Treatment?

Once your outpatient program is complete, you can transition into aftercare or remote care for the next phase of your recovery journey. This program will provide you with the therapy and support necessary to resume independent living outside of a treatment facility.
